Puscifer Biography

If you remember how it was with Tool at the beginning, all mysterious, no one knew where they were coming from, you are then well aware of the fact that Puscifer also has the same methods. Puscifer is still covered in a veil of mystery, but nevertheless it keeps fascinating us even more because of that fact, Maynard James Keenan aka Puscifer, knows pretty well how this business works and he is proving he is a genius at work. Well let’s uncover some of the mystery surrounding Puscifer and Maynard James Keenan.

Very few of you know that the first name for Puscifer was originally Umlaut, which I have no idea what it means. Maynard explained in an interview with Daniel Robert Epstein that the name Puscifer was first used when he and Adam Jones were guests in Mr. Show, but the name of the band before that was Umlaut, which lasted about a day. But this was a side project he had from a long time ago. That show was in 1995, but the first song actually recorded under the name of Puscifer was REV 22:20 in 2003 for the Underground soundtrack. Puscifer also recorded a song titled The Undertaker for the sequel of this movie, Underground Evolution.

The first album released under Puscifer was “V” is for Vagina, in October 2007. There was plenty of talk about this album, most of the critics found it immature and below the previous work of Maynard James Keenan by all standards, he obviously didn’t mind as he knew that Puscifer will soon creep under everyone’s skin. The first single from that album was Queen B, for which he also released a video. Other singles that followed this album were Trekka and Cuntry Boner. In 2008 Puscifer released an album titled “V” is for Viagra, which was the remix album of “V” is for Vagina. The new album had remixes for all of the songs from the first album as well as the remix for the single Cuntry Boner. Remixes on that album were done by Maynard James Keenan himself as well as Dave “Rave” Ogilvie, Lustmord, Renholder, Paul Barker as well as Telefon Tel Aviv.

The list of people that worked on the first album and the remix album is huge, so we can safely say that Puscifer is a band with one permanent member, Maynard James Keenan. Here is the list of all the people that worked on the first album, “V” is for Vagina:

Before releasing the second Puscifer album Maynard started touring, the first live show they ever had was a blast and something never before seen. The first show was held in Las Vegas, a cabernet, as Maynard called it. He said there are no words to explain it, you will have to see it and then you will understand. After that Puscifer went on several tours with a constant revolving lineup of the band. Some of those tours are planned even now for countries outside of US.

Puscifer is more than just a band, it is a brand of clothing lines which anyone can find and purchase at www.puscifer.com, the official Puscifer store. At this moment Maynard is putting aside his vinery his Puscifer project and is working on a new Tool album that is planned for the end of this year.
